Who are we?

Álvaro Tolosa

Ph.D. Student

I studied Physics degree at the University of Valladolid  (2009-2013) and University of Zaragoza (2013-2014), and then, the  Interuniversity Master in Nuclear Physics (2014-2015).  I did my  Master Thesis in Instituto de Estructura de la Materia (IEM, CSIC),  about silicon telescope detectors and its use as an online system of  beam diagnosis for HIE-ISOLDE.  In 2016 I started my PhD with a FPI grant  in the Gamma Spectroscopy  group at IFIC.

I recently got my PhD degree (May 2018), with the thesis "Isospin mixing and in-beam study of non-yrast states of 56Co". I did my PhD studies awarded with a FPU scholarship. My work was centered in the analysis of a gamma spectroscopy "in-beam" experiment, performed at the MLL Laboratory at Munich (TUM), with the Ge detectors array MINIBALL. This analysis will help us to understand better the comparison between the beta decay process and the charge-exchange reaction. I studied the Physics degree at Palma de Mallorca, moving one year to the university of Madrid. In Valencia I did a Master in Advanced Physics and my master thesis in the Gamma Spectroscopy group, on the characterization of NaI scintillators crystals for the  future DESPEC (FAIR).

I am female colombian physicist from Universidad del Valle. Currently I am Ph. D. student at the University of Valencia and I am writing the thesis: "Beta strength measurements of delayed neutron emitters: 87,88Br, 94Rb". My research interests are gamma spectroscopy, experimental nuclear physics, nuclear structure and nuclear instrumentation.

Nuclear Physics Master Student

I am a Master's student studying Physics with Nuclear Astrophysics at the University of Surrey (England), with a particular interest in Experimental Nuclear Physics and Theoretical Cosmology. I am currently pursuing a research project as a member of the Gamma-Ray and Neutron Spectroscopy group at IFIC in Valencia (Spain), focused on the development of a radioactive imaging device capable of simultaneously determining the spatial origin of gamma and neutron sources, called GNVision. My contribution to this project involves the discrimination of particle types, an essential component of GNVision's functionality. The device's intended applications range from medical use, in the monitoring of ion-beam range and dosages during hadron therapy, to applications in nuclear security.

I was born in Cartagena, city where I lived until I went to university of Murcia to study Physics. I did the Master in Experimental Nuclear and Particle Physics at the University of Valencia with my final project conducted at IFIC focused on top-quark pair production and the search of new physics using jet reconstruction algorithms. I worked for almost two years on Monte Carlo simulations of particle detectors and environmental radioactivity at University of Extremadura. After that I became part of the Gamma-ray and Neutron Spectroscopy research group with a FPI grant to develop my Ph.D. thesis: Experiments of nuclear structure and astrophysics with radioactive beams and neutrons and applications.

After studying the degree in Physics in Valladolid and Madrid, I moved to Valencia to study a master. I joined the Gamma Spectroscopy group, where I did my master thesis on segmented silicon detectors (DSSSD). After that, I started my PhD with a FPU fellowship in the line of Total Absorption Spectroscopy, taking care of preparing the new segmented calorimeter of NaI crystals designed by the group for DESPEC (FAIR). I am currently working in the analysis of nuclei measured with this detector in the last experiment carried out at IGISOL (Jyväskylä).
